THE people who run the annual Ilfracombe Town Criers' ,Competition have issued a cry for help themselves.This year's event is due to take place on Sunday, June 15 during the resort's Victorian Celebrations.But, with its popularity growing year by year, it is going to cost at least £4,000 to stage this year.Peter Robins, the competition co-ordinator and Roy Goodwin, Ilfracombe's town crier, have appealed fort sponsorship."The competition has attained national recognition as being one of the most popular and biggest in the UK and as a result it has attracted visitors to enjoy its colourful spectacle," they say in an appeals letter."We are not prepared to reduce the standard that has been accepted over the years and in order to put it on at all, we have to appeal to the generosity of everyone to join our list of sponsors."Anyone able to help should call Mr Robins on (01271) 862445 or Mr Goodwin on (01271) 879691.Cheques should be made payable to Ilfracombe Town Criers Competitions.
