SIR - September 3, 2009, will be the 70th anniversary of the Second World War - a significant day for men and women who served in the Forces during that conflict. For those who, like me, were Regular or Territorial soldiers in the early days of the war, the day will bring poignant memories as well as happy ones. Many who survived to take part in the Victory Parade have since joined those who did not. While we have lost much of the freedom for which we fought, and some are struggling to cope with today's problems, we can still be proud of what we did and join together to celebrate our anniversary. In the absence of any official recognition of the day, I am willing to help organise a get-together of veterans in the South West. No parades, no salutes, a few drinks, a lot of talking and perhaps a meal? Please contact me with ideas - and tell any veteran who has lost his specs!Jack Mount (Royal Signals 1939-47),Culmington House, Paradise Lawn,South Molton, EX36 3DJ.(01769) 579369
