Council approves new homes for village at planning committee meeting on Wednesday.

Plans for 65 new homes in Witheridge have been unanimously approved by North Devon Council.

The council's planning committee heard the application for the development on land south of Butt's Close at a meeting at Barnstaple Rugby Club on Wednesday.

The new scheme would be accessed from a new junction from Fore Street, with a mixture of housing types and 11 affordable units.

Local ward member, councillor Jeremy Yabsley sent his apologies in for the meeting, but emailed to ask the committee to 'support the officer's recommendation and approve' the scheme.

Alder King is acting as the agent for the development.

Speaking at the meeting, Alder King's Dale Evans said: "Overall we think this is a nice, balanced development and we think it's a nice and positive thing for the village."

Approval was moved by councillor David Warden, who said the scheme would be in the 'obvious place for expansion' in the village.
