More than 100 old classmates turned up last weekend to Barnstaple Boys’ Secondary School’s first ever reunion – with some even travelling from as far away as Australia.

Hosted at Barnstaple Rugby Club, where £350 was raised towards the club’s funds, organisers had originally confirmed only twenty old boys’ attendance beforehand.

As well Dave Phillips and Paddy Lawson, who both began their journeys Down Under, George Roberts journeyed more than 3,000 miles from Maryland, USA.

Following the event’s success, preparations are already being made for next year.

Organiser Gerald Thorne, who was a pupil at Barnstaple Boys’ School between 1950 and 1955, said he was completely ‘blown away with how the event was supported.’

He added: “I think probably the oldest old boy was Ivan Turner at the age of 87!”
