ANDY Waters, headmaster of Kingsley School in Bideford and a long standing member of the Society of Heads of Independent Schools, has been chosen as this year’s chairman of the society.

The society represents more than 100 UK senior independent schools with some 50,000 pupils, as well as a number of overseas members, and is represented on the Board of the Independent Schools Council.

Mr Waters has worked at SHMIS schools and served on the society’s education, deputy heads and heads committees since 1988.

He said: “I am delighted to have been honoured with this nomination, especially as the society celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and has a number of high-profile events planned. I look forward to the challenge of chairmanship and to representing Kingsley School on the national stage.”
