THIEVES have stolen valuable boat engines plus equipment worth around £40,000 from North Devon Yacht Club at Instow. Witnesses are being sought to the raid, which occurred sometime between 4.30pm on Wednesday, January 7 and 10.45am on Thursday, January 8.

THIEVES have stolen valuable boat engines plus equipment worth around £40,000 from North Devon Yacht Club at Instow.Witnesses are being sought to the raid, which occurred sometime between 4.30pm on Wednesday, January 7 and 10.45am on Thursday, January 8.In what appeared to be a well-planned "professional" theft, the offenders cut a hole in the Tarka Trail hedge outside the village, made their way to the club and cut another hole in the fence."It is believed the offenders carried or used a trailer to remove the engines, which would have taken at least three men or good lifting equipment," said PC Terry Hodgson, Neighbourhood Beat Manager for the area."They were then placed on to a vehicle near the Tarka Trail on the old A39."Anyone who has any information or who saw anybody acting suspiciously in the area at the time is asked to contact police on 08452 777444, quoting reference CB/09/86.
