Police have hailed a ‘very positive’ traffic operation on the A361 Braunton Road in Barnstaple this morning (Wednesday).
Officers and support staff from several sections of Devon and Cornwall Police ran a two-and-three-quarter hour automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) operation, spotting drivers who were not wearing a seatbelt or were using a mobile phone.
More than 500 cars were read on the ANPR, with 13 tickets issued.
Nine were given to drivers not wearing seatbelts, three to mobile phone users and one for driving a skip lorry in a dangerous condition.
Two further drivers were reported and one arrested for a positive breath test.
Professional Development Officer PC Ben Thomas said: “It was an awesome success for all involved and clearly showed what great team work there is in North Devon.”
