New venue for Barnstaple show

BARNSTAPLE open boxing show at the new venue of St John’s Community Hall on Saturday night produced an excellent turnout and a lively evening.

There were three Barnstaple club victories among the 11 bouts, with Josh Mason beating Shane Heywood of Sturminster Newton on points, Jake Coates beating Damien Knill of Combe Martin, who was retired in the second round, and Billy Hammett beating Jack Green of Pilgrims, Plymouth, on points.

Three other Barnstaple boxers suffered defeats, Kai Avery losing a majority points verdict to Jordan Lane of Tiverton, Harry Sugars also losing a majority points decision to Corey Westbrooke of Tiverton and Tom Allum stopped in the second round against Will Sykes of Devonport.

Jack Dickinson (Pilgrims) bt Sam Boumont (Sturminster Newton) majority points.

In addition to the competitive bouts there were skills bouts featuring local boxers Tommy Burbidge, Alan Bond and Ted Alexander (Barnstaple), Jed Pearce and George Stanbury (Combe Martin), L Hayle and Lewis Clarke (Bideford) and Kline Rutherford (St Ives).
