Meet the new captains of Saunton Golf Club

North Devon Gazette

The new year will see a trio of new captains leading the way for 2022 at the magnificent Saunton Golf Club.Â

It all starts with Junior Captain Ruby Davis, the first female to hold this position at the club, with Trevor Reynolds taking on the job of Men’s Captain and Jane Chappell will lead the Ladies in a significant year for the club. Â

“Ruby Davis is our Junior Captain for 2021/22 and the first ever girl to hold the post,” said Saunton GC.Â

“Ruby is part of the Devon Golf U18 Girls team and currently holds a Handicap Index of 8.6 but hopes to reduce this over the coming year. Aside from golf, Ruby also plays County cricket!Â

“She is currently studying PE, Maths & Geography at college. As Junior Captain, Ruby hopes to encourage more Juniors to start golf and to participate in competitions – especially girls!Â

We wish Ruby all the best for the year ahead.Â

“Trevor is our Men’s Captain for 2021/22 and Saunton’s 125th Anniversary Year.Â

“Trevor has been a Member at Saunton since 1993 and was also General Manager of the Club from 1995-2006, meaning he got to play a key role in Saunton’s Centenary Year in 1997.Â

“Trevor has volunteered within golf for many years – he has previously been President of Devon Golf and also of the South West Group of England Golf. In 2018, Trevor received the Gerald Micklem Award from England Golf for his contribution to the amateur game.Â

“We wish Trevor the very best for his upcoming year as Captain.Â

“Jane is our Ladies Captain for 2022 and Saunton’s 125th Anniversary Year.Â

“Jane has been a Member at Saunton since 1996 and has previously been Assistant Ladies Secretary and then Ladies Secretary for four years. Jane has previously also been a Director on the Main Board for six years.Â

“Jane’s husband, Martyn, used to be the Junior Organiser here at the Club and Jane found herself heavily involved with our Junior Section during this time.Â

“We wish Jane every success in her role at Ladies Captain for the year ahead.”Â
