Suspect to appear in court after theft of deactivated AK 47s, machine guns and pistols from North Devon museum
A 44-year-old Cardiff man is to appear before Barnstaple Magistrates after being charged in connection with an alleged burglary which saw a haul of deactivated firearms including AK 47 assault rifles stolen from Cobbaton Combat Museum.
During a Victory in Japan themed event over the weekend of August 13 at the museum and tourist attraction near Umberleigh, the owner discovered that a number of deactivated firearms including AK 47s, machine guns and pistols had been stolen.
Enquiries by Barnstaple CID officers led them to an address in Wales where their Welsh colleagues executed a firearms warrant and recovered the property.
“This is a very unusual incident, we were pleased that with the help of South Wales Police we were able to locate all of the firearms and that they will be returned to the museum,†said DC James Rees of Barnstaple CID.
Michael Cassemis is scheduled to appear at Barnstaple Magistrates on Friday, October 7.
