Jaden and Steve hit the right note with judges at regional finals
TWO North Devon singers are just a step away from performing at the O2 Arena in London.
Steve Ley, from Barnstaple and Jaden Cornelious, who divides his time between North Devon and London, wowed the crowds and judging panels at Open Mic UK regional finals held in Bristol and London.
The performers will now have to do the same at area finals being held in November.
If they are successful, they’ll go head to head at the O2 with some of the UK’s top signing talent at the event’s national grand final on January 21.
About Steve, judges said: “Good stage presence, and enjoyed medley too. The Image worked and good all-round package. “Needs to move to the next level in the next round though.â€
Judges said Jaden had a “huge†voice and surprised the judges them with his style, which has a contemporary twist.
Megan Kerby, from Bideford, was also performing but didn’t make it through to the area final, although judges commended her “nice, comfortable deliveryâ€.
They said “dynamic shape and greater sense of performance would have helped enormously†and awarded Meg an exposure accolade for publicity and 250 worth of recording studio time.
Classical singer Sarah-Louise Ward, from Westward Ho! is set to compete at an alternative regional final in Cardiff on October 8.
A spokesperson for Open Mic UK said: “We are searching for an act that not only has the live ability to impress an audience, industry judges and A&R associates, but an act that has the potential to become a professional recording artist.
“Acts that have made it are just one step away from performing at the best live music venue in the country.â€
There’s more than 50,000 in prizes up for grabs this year and the overall winner will be offered a recording contract, with up to 30,000 investment. They’ll also have the opportunity to tour across the UK.
