Fear not, you know summer is just around the corner when you see these marvellous sights in North Devon…
1. The daffodils are in bloom
Bright yellow flowers are starting to appear at the roadside as the daffodils begin their yearly display. Popular spots include around Yelland and Instow – and just down the road from the North Devon Gazette offices in Barnstaple!
2. The Hocking’s vans are back
It always seems like a long winter without this deliciously creamy treat – and North Devon goes into a frenzy when the Hocking’s fleet appear back on the scene. Our reporter Matt spotted the first one in Instow on Saturday.
3. Newborn lambs at the Big Sheep
Nothing says spring like baby animals – and you know it’s starting to warm up when you can watch the gorgeous little lambs being born in front of you at The Big Sheep in Abbotsham, Bideford.
4. You leave work and it’s still light
What is this strange, sunny orb in the sky? Is this what the outside of my office building looks like? Commuters everywhere finally get a glimpse of each other as they sit in Barnstaple’s traffic jams…
4. Barricane Beach Café returns
You’ve been dreaming of those summer evenings sat on the beach, scoffing the most amazing Sri Lankan curry and watching the sun set – and it won’t be long until you can do it again! Barricane Beach café will be craned back into place soon.
6. The North Devon traffic gets worse
The hoards of winter roadworks may not be gone yet, but you can add to that the swatches of caravans and surfboard-topped cars which start to fill the roads. That’s why we’re campaiging for A Better Link to North Devon.
7. There is time for a cheeky post-work surf
All winter those frothy waves have looked angry and cold, so cold. But now it looks a little more tempting, and you’ve dusted off your board ready to hop in the car straight from the office and take in that swell at Croyde, Saunton, Woolacombe, Westward Ho! or Putsborough...
