North Devon Light Up a Life appeal launched for Christmas 2015 with North Devon Hospice and Childrens Hospice South West.

Keep the light of memory alive this Christmas by honouring a loved one through the Light Up a Life appeal.

Once again, the Gazette is supporting the annual remembrance appeal to raise money for the vital work of North Devon Hospice and Children's Hospice South West (CHSW).

Now in its 19th year, it has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for the charities and given comfort to thousands of people whose loved ones are gone but not forgotten.

People can make donations for candles to be lit in their memory and for their names to be entered into books of remembrance.

Plus, between now and Christmas they can attend 22 special services across the region.

This year the launch at St John's Garden Centre reflected all the ingredients that go into it, so organisers gathered with candles at the ready, service sheets prepared, mince pies baked and a Christmas tree.

Gazette editor Andy Keeble said: "This paper has had a proud association with the appeal and through all that time it has had fantastic support from our readers, who make Light Up a Life what it is."

Gerard Fawcitt, from North Devon Hospice's fundraising team, added: "Christmas can be a difficult time for those being cared for by North Devon Hospice, but the support of local people through this appeal helps us make it special and meaningful."

Emma Perry, senior community fundraiser at CHSW, said: "Being able to display your loved one's name in the Book of Remembrance and capture their memory in candlelight is a beautiful way to remember those who are not with us anymore."
