New choir being set up by Bideford singer and guitarist.

A well known Bideford musician is hoping to introduce people of all ages to the joys of singing by forming the town’s first ever Rock ‘n’ Pop Choir.

Guitarist Peter Kirk has played well over 700 gigs in his musical career and has become a familiar sight at local pubs and clubs over the years.

His new venture starts at Bideford Methodist Church on Monday and the first session is free. Times are 6.45 for a 7pm start and classes run until 9.30.

The 10 week course is open to all ages and will cover songs form the 1960s up to the present day, as well as suggestions form the choir as to what they’d like to sing.

The sessions are fully insured and will cover a range of vocal techniques such as breathing, singing from the diaphragm and using the head voice and chest voice.

It is open to all ages but those aged under 16 must be accompanied.

“I never set out to be a singer, in fact I set out to learn to play the guitar,” said Peter.

“People often say to me ‘I wish I could sing’ and I believe anyone who can speak can sing. I’ve picked up a great number of tips over the years, studied hard and also developed my own unique style and technique, which I am looking forward to passing on to others.”
