CASTLE Knights ran out winners of the North Devon Table Tennis League’s Ramsey Cup, confining Hopefuls to the runners-up spot for the second year running with a 5-2 win in the final.
The Knights got off to a flyer, winning the first two sets. Gerald Luscombe and Ian Rice took the first doubles and David Gray gained a good singles win over Tony Clarke Grenfell.
Sam Morris pulled a set back against Ian Rice, but David Gray then restored the two point lead with a close win over Alan Cheung. Tony Grenfell repeated his championship win over Gerald Luscombe to pull Hopefuls back to within one set, but the Knights then galloped to victory with another doubles win and Ian Rice taking the final singles match against Alan Cheung.
An informal, all standards, spring league is being played on Wednesdays at Instow. Anyone who would like to try their hand should contact Alan Slade on (01271) 860559 or Tony Whatley on (01271) 860674.
