Davey hat-trick helps Shebbear to their first ever Braunton Cup win

SHEBBEAR United came from 2-0 down to beat Barnstaple AAC Reserves 5-3 in an exhilarating Braunton Cup final on Sunday.

Steve Isaac gave the Ammies a commanding 2-0 lead at Mill Road before James Vanstone rallied the troops with equalising goals from centre midfield.

And by the time the whistle blew to end the half, Martin Davey completed the turn around to put Shebbear 3-2 up at the break.

The Ammies got themselves back on track in sensational style when Mark Sanders cut in from the left and bent a beautiful shot around the keeper that nestled as snugly in the stanchion as an eight ball in a corner pocket.

The Barnstaple side came agonisingly close to winning the match in the last five minutes but with the keeper beaten, Isaac could only hit the post and the scores stayed locked at 3-3 after 90 minutes.

If normal time was all about Isaac and Vanstone, man-of-the-match Davey stole the show for Shebbear in extra-time.

The striker scored two in quick succession to notch a memorable cup-final hat-trick and help Shebbear to the Braunton Cup silverware for the first time in the club’s history.
