FORGET magical lamps – shoppers at a Barnstaple garden centre were rubbing their eyes when the cast of Aladdin paid a flying visit to launch this year’s Queen’s Theatre pantomime on Monday morning.

The young Arab street urchin was joined by fellow cast members including Widow Twankey, Wishee Washee and the evil Abanazar at St John’s Garden Centre for a morning of pantomime pandemonium to set the scene for another cracking Christmassy caper.

North Devon Theatres in association with the Hiss & Boo Company promise to grant theatre-goers a very special wish by presenting the traditional family favourite – complete with flying carpets, genies and lots of comic mayhem – from December 10 until January 3.

The classic adventure story will feature the stars from last year’s show-stopping cast of Cinderella. Saucy sisters Antony Stuart-Hicks and David Phipps-Davis, loveable sidekick Mark Reeves, and North Devon’s incredible escapologist Merlin Cadogan are all making welcome returns to Barnstaple, as are David Phipps-Davis, as Abanazar, and Vivienne McMaster as the Genie of the Ring.

Will Aladdin and Wishee Washee outwit the evil Abanazar? Will Princess Jasmine find the man of her dreams? And will Widow Twankey ever finish laundering the Emperor’s underpants?

With the Genie of the Lamp and Merlin’s magical help, what can go wrong?
