United go top with big home win

SHEBBEAR United came from behind to hammer South Molton 7-1 and go to the top of the Senior Division on Saturday.

Jamie Giffard put the Images 1-0 before the hosts stomped their authority on the match with hat-tricks by Greg Mitchell and Martin Davey and a single by Matthew Facey.

A brace of goals by Matt Beveridge and singles by Joel Bearman and Craig Tough helped North Molton Reserves on their way to a 4-2 win at home to Torrington Reserves, who were unable to follow up a good 3-1 mid-week win at home to Braunton.

Denny Jenkins scored both goals for Torrie on Saturday, while Joe Grimley, Carl Mott and Nathan Bate were on target under the floodlights at Vicarage Field.

Chittlehampton beat Park United 5-2 at Sandymere, while Bratton Fleming were awarded all three points in their game against Bude – without even kicking a ball.

Despite the Bratton pitch having passed a lunchtime inspection, Bude felt the ground was too frozen to play and had a player sent off for remonstrating with the referee before the game even kicked off.

Having only travelled with a bare XI, they refused to play and forfeited the match following investigation by the league.
