Free attraction leaflet gets thumbs up and will carry on next year

COUNCILLORS have been asked to bankroll the second year of the Ilfracombe Destination leaflet which has proved hugely popular among locals and visitors alike.

North Devon Council paid to initiate the first run of the leaflet, which was extremely successful. Ilfracombe Town Council agreed on Monday to continue to fund it at a cost 4,000 for the next print run.

The leaflets were introduced by the council’s Tourism Marketing Group and highlights what the town has to offer, from visitor attractions to walks, historical landmarks, food experiences and activities for the wet or dry, as well as handy transport information.

At the end of August, 80,000 had been distributed, with a further 7,000 expected to fly off the shelves. This year the aim is to have 70,000 printed, 50,000 to go to Publicity South West for distribution throughout the region with the remaining 20,000 distributed locally.

The cost of the leaflets would be 3,998 and come from the council’s marketing budget, set aside to support the town’s tourism industry in line with its Strategic Plan for taking control of its own destiny rather relying on others for funding.
