North Devon Charity wins 38k grant to install green energy scheme

NORTH Devon Hospice has won a 38,000 grant to install solar panels at Deer Park, in Barnstaple.

The charity was one of just four community energy projects to win a share of the energyshare fund, launched by British Gas and celebrity chef Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall’s River Cottage.

The money was decided entirely by public vote, with the successful bidders announced on Saturday.

The hospice thanked everyone who voted for the scheme, shortlisted for the cash alongside six other groups in the small project category.

“We have been humbled by the sheer volume of support we have received throughout this process and from across the country,” said a spokesperson.

“It’s such amazing news for the hospice and will mean our saving of 4,000 every year, can be directed back into patient care. “It will continue making a difference to every person and family member we support.”
