Our man holds on tight, feels the Gs and even manages not to swear!

Barnstaple fair has opened tonight (Wednesday) - and there's a new ride in town.

With a triple rotation, speeds of up to 70kmph and around 4Gs of force, Top Scan is not for the faint-hearted.

Never one to shirk a challenge, Gazette reporter Matt Smart buckled up and held on tight to see what all the fuss was about.

And after an exhilarating few minutes being spun, flipped and rolled up to 20 metres above Barnstaple, Matt said: "It was a great experience to be one of the first to go on Top Scan in Barnstaple.

"The feeling of being upside down takes a bit of getting used to but it was well worth it.

"It definitely lives up to its white-knuckle ride status."

This year's Barnstaple fair features more than 20 large rides as well as dozens of smaller rides, stalls, attractions and food stalls.

The fair is at Seven Brethren every night until Saturday night.
