Crowds packed the streets for Bideford Carnival on Saturday afternoon, as the sun shone down on the town. The theme this year was fantasy and fairytales, and saw plenty of mystical-themed floats. In the walking categories, entries ranged from fairies to characters from books and films. Carnival regular June Upton was dressed for her 43rd carnival, in her Queen of Hearts costume. She said: I just love it - and the three years I was too ill to take part, they made me judge it. Other walking entries included characters from Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz, Harry Potter and The Little Mermaid. Grandad Stig was also zipping around the parades on a mobility scooter, high-fiving young members of the crowds. The Jesters Carnival Club took overall winner, with their Spirit of the Woods themed float. There was also a Willy Wonka float, dedicated to the late actor Gene Wilder. Before the carnival set off at 6pm, carnival queen Dallas Gown was crowned at the Bideford Reds balcony by mayor David Howell. And after the parade made its way through the town, crowds enjoyed the Massed Pipes and Drums with visiting bands from across the country. The whole evening ended with the fireworks display.Scroll through the galleries above for more photos from Bideford Carnival and the Massed Pipes and Drums event.
