A fire in a Barnstaple supermarkets car park was so fierce it melted several cash machines. Fire fighters were called to Sainsburys in Roundswell at around 1.30am yesterday (Sunday). The car was well alight when a crew from Barnstaple arrived at the scene. Fire fighters extinguished the blaze wearing breathing apparatus and using a hose reel jet, thermal imaging camera and dry powder extinguisher. Yesterday the section of the car park was cordoned off, with only melted tarmac left. The cash machines were out of service as their frontage had melted. No one was hurt in the incident and the fire was caused accidentally.
