Bideford’s carnival parade brought a colourful Night at the Movies to the town streets on Saturday night.
IT rained on Bideford’s big carnival parade on Saturday night, but the heavy showers failed to wash the smiles off faces as the town enjoyed its “Night at the Movies.”
The special theme for this year’s carnival brought out many favourite film characters, including more pirates than you could shake a cutlass at, as several groups chose Pirates of the Caribbean for their entries.
But it was Chicken Run depicted by children from Hartland which stole the show as their entry from Deptford Farm was the overall tableaux winner and also the best children’s tableau.
The ghosts, ghouls, witches and warlocks on Bideford St John Ambulance’s Thriller Nights float were overall runners-up and also carried off the award for best theme float.
The silver screen also inspired colourful entries depicting Shrek, Oliver, Mary Poppins, Tarka the Otter, Annie, Finding Nemo, Cinderella and more.
Leading the walking section were more than two dozen little policemen and women, with their home-made vehicles and equipment.
The Lego Police entry was the latest by the Torridgeside Carnival Club, formed last year by a group of local families and featuring their uniformed young children.
