While most of North Devon woke up to a wet and cold morning, others had the surprise of snow.

Snow has fallen overnight across parts of North Devon and Exmoor.

This comes after a weather warning was issued earlier this week for snow and ice today (Wednesday).

Darren Robins, from Brayford, captured these photographs from his home this morning.

A weather warning remains in place for snow and ice until midday.

A forecaster from the Met Office said: “A cold westerly airstream will spread across the area on Tuesday evening, allowing frequent showers in the overnight period to fall as snow, especially over high ground.

“There is some uncertainty over how much snow will settle at low levels, and many places within the yellow area may miss the snow altogether. However, where snow does occur it is likely to be heavy and produce a covering quite quickly.”

From 3pm, there are warnings of wind and rain: “A deepening area of low pressure is expected to move northeast passing close to the extreme northwest of Scotland on Thursday,” said the forecaster.

“A spell of heavy rainfall is expected across many parts of western and southern England and Wales in association with this system, lasting from Wednesday afternoon until Thursday morning, after which clearer, colder weather is expected to spread southeast.”
