Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious collision in Northam on Sunday which left a pedestrian critically injured.

Emergency services were called around 1.20am after the woman was involved in a collision with a silver Ford Mondeo on the A386 Churchill Way at Northam.

The Bideford woman, aged 39, sustained a life-threatening head injury and was taken to North Devon District Hospital.

She was later transferred to Derriford Hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

The car driver, a 69-year-old man from Bideford, was uninjured in the collision.

The road was closed overnight for more seven-and-a-half hours while a forensic examination of the scene took place and the vehicle was recovered.
