Help for surf lifesavers

SURF Lifesaving Club fundraisers Tracy Lark, Mark Turner and Fay Mills have secured 1,150 from the Youth Opportunities Fund to help North Devon clubs get more young people involved in inshore rescue competitions and also help out as voluntary safety cover at regional competitions on local beaches.

The money will be used towards gaining the recognised accreditation of Surf Lifesaving GB Inshore Rescue Boat Crewman Awards for young members involved in the sport.

A taster session for young people at Saunton Sands was well attended. Saunton Surf Lifesaving Club provided the use of its club hut and trainers were Wayne Copp and Richard Harrison.

Some of the young people attending have now signed up to do the award, which started at Saunton Sands beach on Sunday.
