THE Saunton Pro-Am attracted a field of 37 teams, with the locals taking full advantage of playing on their own course.
In the professional competition Saunton Pro Albert Mackenzie came home with a three-under-par 68 and shared the top prize with former Tour player Stuart Little of Minchinhampton.
Mackenzie was joined by Charles Marten, Peter Lethbridge and Vince Jenner in the Pro-Am event and amassed a 12-under-par 130 which pipped assistant pro Andy Knight, Kristian Mowatt, Luke Querk and Philip Venn on countback.
The regional qualifier for the English Golf Captains was held at Saunton and Saunton members acquitted themselves very well. The leading qualifier was David Jacobs with 38 points, while fellow Saunton members Peter Dunstan, Jeremy Nicholls and Charles West all qualified for the final to be played at the Berkshire in August.
Ladies Stableford (East course): Silver division - 1, Sue Knott (13) 33 pts; 2, Val Cook (16) 31; 3, Rose Kirkham (18) 30. Bronze I division - 1, Jane Peacock (22) 34; 2, Pat Ford (27) 33. Bronze II division - 1, Elaine Kingdon (29) 26.

ILFRACOMBE Golf Club's good run in the County Palairet Trophy came to an end in the quarter-finals at Tavistock when they were beaten 4-1 by Exeter Golf and Country Club.

Ilfracombe ladies held an Invitation Day competition for teams of four.

A POOR weather forecast restricted entries for the Royal North Devon veterans' Keith Braund Trophy to 38 players.
John Harkness (13) was a narrow winner with 37 points. He made his score on the way out with 20 points and consolidated with 4 points on the 13th coming home.
Kenny Braund (18) came second with 36 points shading Dick Ford (12) 36 into third on the final six holes. Peter Brummitt (9) and Robin Gale (28) also scored 36.
RND gained a comfortable lead in the first leg of their Emerton Court semi final at home to Ilfracombe.
Royal North Devon ladies' Bruford Cup was won by M Marshman, handicap 19, with a net score of 158 over the two days' play.
Second place went to K Brown (8) net 160 and third was P Bowles (32) net 162.
The ladies staged an RNLI day Stableford competition and raised ï¿½106.
Winners were: Div 1 - 1, R Macaulay-Black (20) 32pts; 2, V Cook (16) 26. Div 22 - 1, R Horn (24) 36pts; 2, J Thomas (23) 35.

PAUL Jennings took top honours in Mortehoe and Woolacombe's seniors championship with a gross 76 return.
Roy Richardson took second on countback from Chris Dyer, both with 80.
The Stableford competition was won by Jim Lyons (28) with 40 points. Eric Hanley (21) took second from George Parker (21), both with 39.
The July Stableford competition produced some tremendous scoring, led by Division 2 winner Dave Hodges with 46 points.
