The famous golf links at Saunton is celebrating a very special anniversary in 2022.
Saunton Golf Club was founded in 1897 and now in its 125th year of hosting fantastic golf in North Devon. In an exclusive week for members, the club hosted a number of fun competitions, the Men’s and Ladies Captain’s Days and finished it off with a prizegiving evening, followed by a Hog Roast and Abba Tribute band.
After the opening in 1897, Saunton hosted an exhibition match featuring golfing icons of the day, James Braid, J.H. Taylor and Sir Henry Cotton, in 1929. The course was used by the Air Landing Reconnaissance Squadron during WW2, the Brabazon Trophy hosted in 1967 and the 1992 British Ladies Amateur Open.
The third clubhouse at Saunton opened in 1929 and the West Course in 1974. The history of Saunton GC has been fabulous and the future looks just as bright.
