PETROC volleyball girls have qualified for the national colleges championships.

They won through by beating Cornwall 25-13,25-17 and then overcame Richard Huish College 25-21,25-20 in the decider thanks to more consistent serving and serve receiving.

The girls - Ellen Raymond, Immy Dawes, Emma-Jane Evans, Lauren Yeo, Claudia Baddick,

Phoebe Reed, Niki Felkin and Charlotte Hole will now be joining the boys’ team in Bath at the British Colleges National Championship in April.

A mixed team of Academy of Beach Sports girls and Petroc girls went to Burnham on Sea to compete in the U18 national club cup competition.

As expected, they lost to Redhill Stourbridge before beating the Kings Volleyball club. The first qualification spot went to Stourbridge, who won all their games, leaving the North Devon girls in a play-off against Cardiff for the second spot. They led for a long time, but finally lost out to the Welsh team.

They suffered defeat in their opening match against top-of-the-league Wessex/Bournemouth University 12-15,18-25,18-25, but came through well to defeat second-placed Torexe Topgun

in a deciding set 20-25, 25-19, 25-21, 24-26, 15-13.

The team comprised Dom Spears (capt), Will Hartnoll, Mike Evans, Dimitri Wren, Connor Stallard, Chris Teoh, Jack Constable and Matt Rhymer.
