PETROC volleyball teams played girls’, boys’ and mixed matches this week, including in the British Colleges Sport mixed semi final.

The college team equitted itself well in the semi-finals against two teams from Birmingham.

They beat Birmingham Met 25-17, 24-26, 15-9, but lost out to a Redhill Stourbridge team which included a couple of England junior players 16-25, 17-25, despite a best-ever display by their girls.

Petroc girls’ team were helped by a couple of Academy of Beach Sports players in the Exeter Ladies Development Tournament.

They came second out of six teams, being beaten in the final by three points. In the 30-minutes matches they beat Cornish Saracens 34-19, Richard Huish College 52-25, Plymouth Marjons 47-20 and Kings Volleyball Club 39-28 and drew against Tiorex Foxes 25-25 before losing to the Foxes in the final 34-37.

The boys played in the U18 cup against Redhill Stourbridge and the Welsh U18s. Redhill were too strong, beating them 13-25 and 15-25. This meant they must beat the Welsh team.

But after a tight contest which saw them lose the first set 18-25 and pull back to take the second 25-23, they lost the tiebreak 9-25 to the resurgent Welsh.
