THE North Devon Gazette is proud to announce its sponsorship of the North Devon Football League.

The sponsorship was announced to member clubs at the league's annual meeting.

League secretary Mick Tattersall said: "On behalf of the North Devon League we would like to thank the North Devon Gazette for their sponsorship and look forward to working together for many years to come."

The AGM was started with a brief silence in memory of Albert Beer, President of the North Devon League, who sadly passed away earlier in the year.

Four new Clubs were officially elected into the league - Anchor Chiefs, AFC Anchor Reserves, Braunton 4ths and Fremington.

The season starts on August 21 with 63 teams.

Peter Sercombe received the Harold Bartlett Trophy for the referee with the highest average marks during last season.

Mick Tattersall said: "On behalf of the North Devon Gazette Football League we would like to congratulate Pete on this great achievement. Being a referee in the league for over 20 years, Pete is certainly one of the old dogs in black, but it goes to show, even the old dogs still can be top dog."

The Secretary of the Year award was won by Phil Prouse of Northam Lions.

Mick said: "Phil Prouse of Northam Lions was a worthy winner of this trophy. The secretaries of the North Devon Gazette Football League unanimously voted for Phil. With a very long season due to the bad weather conditions, Phil still managed to get all his fixtures completed on time while running three teams on one pitch. The club received no fines from the league and the communication from Phil was excellent even though by his own admission he is not completely up to date with technology. Phil Prouse has been at Northam Lions a very long time and as league secretary it was an honour to see him collect the award at the AGM."

The North Devon Gazette Football League wishes all member clubs the very best of luck for the 2010 - 2011 season.
