Braunton make it five wins in a row and stay top

BRAUNTON extended their winning run to five games and maintained top spot in the North Devon Gazette League Premier Division table.

James Galliford scored twice after Graham Green had opened Braunton’s account 10 minutes into the match against Putford at Lobb Field.

Manager Mark Harris returned to the helm after a two-week winter break in Mexico; and he’d have no doubt been pleased to see that his side had resisted temptation to take a siesta of their own in his absence.

Second-placed Boca Seniors left it late to pick up all three points at North Molton.

The Stags went 1-0 up through Colin Welch’s volley on the half-hour mark.

Mark Barrow equalised from the penalty spot with 15 minutes to go after Jon Lloyd was adjudged to have handled in the box. And Kurt Bayliss fired across Gary Kingdom to slot home a winner with four minutes to play.

Kingdom saved a penalty the following day as North Molton made it through to the semi-finals of the Torridge Cup with a 1-0 win at home to Dolton. Greg Holland scored the game’s only goal.

James Marsh took the ball on his chest before smashing home a half-volley to give Barnstaple AAC the lead in a 1-1 draw at home to Bradworthy while Adam Cornish (2) and Joe Harding both scored in Georgeham and Croyde’s 3-0 home win against Combe Martin.

Joe Grimley, Danny Jenkins and Ross McNicholas scored the goals in Torrington’s 3-0 derby win at Torridgeside and Dolton picked up a useful point with a 1-1 draw at home to Appledore Reserves.
