More high speed thrills planned for ‘bigger and better’ event

TICKETS for a second annual Motorsport Fun Day at RMB Chivenor are to go on sale next week (Wednesday).

Last year’s inaugural event was enjoyed by around 4,000 people and organisers Petroc say this year’s significantly expanded programme on Sunday, May 15 will provide even more high-speed thrills and spills.

Louise Laing, from the Petroc Events Team said: “We are very excited to announce that we are doing it all again and that this time it will be bigger and better.

“The event has expanded significantly to not only include the live demo and static display zones but also a speed zone, 4x4 zone and extreme sports zone.”

Among the events confirmed so far are a Guinness World Record go-kart land speed attempt; skid pan BMW thrill rides; lawnmower racing; National Sprint Association motorcycle racing; and a 2011 Renault Formula One car, simulator and Batak wall.

Michael Schumacher’s 1993 Camel Benetton Ford Formula One car will be on display and performing demos and there will be other displays by the Ferrari Owners Club; and Yamaha Thunder Truck and Super Bike.

More thrills will be provided by stunt driver Russ Swift, Ken Fox’s Wall of Death and trial bike rider Andrei Burton’s “Full Tilt Show”, while in the air, there’ll be a parachute descent by the RAF Falcons and a winching demo by 22 Squadron Search and Rescue.

The event will also host displays by the JDM Drift Team; trial bike demos; a Southwest Autotest Championship round; Land Rover experience; South West Truckers; and various car clubs including classic, high performance and rally.

The event is being held in aid in aid of The C Group (supporting Royal Marines) and the Royal Marine Base Chivenor Community Fund.

“Last year’s inaugural Motorsport Fun Day was a huge success and we hope that this year’s event will provide another great day out that all the family can enjoy,” added Louise.

“There will also be a fairground, dodgems, trading area, business exhibitor area, Blue Light Zone and onsite catering.”

The main ticket entrance gate opens at 10am and closes at 6pm, with last admissions at 4pm.

Tickets go on sale on March 30 and can be bought at an early bird rate until May 1. Visit www.petroc.ac.uk/motorsport or telephone 0845 2305177.
