Former Exeter forward Lewis Wilson joins Bideford - PPAUK

Football ramping up in North Devon for the new season

North Devon Gazette

North Devon football clubs are dusting off the boots, bibs and cones for the start of pre-season training and there will be plenty of new faces gracing local grounds for the new campaign.

Forward Lewis Wilson has returned to Bideford after a brief spell with Willand Rovers. The former Exeter City youngster told the Robins’ website: “To come back and work with a quality group of lads and a manager like [Sean] Joyce makes the decision a lot easier. I want to pick up where I left off, scoring goals and helping the team to have a better season than last.”

Harry Ford is another talented young forward to join the Bideford ranks after he was snapped up from Buckland Athletic. Like Wilson, Ford learned his trade at the Exeter Academy.

Archie Reay completes a hat-trick of recent signings for the club, as he also makes his return from a stint at Willand and also Barnstaple Town.

Bideford AFC have paid tribute to long-standing supporter Colin Langbridge, who has sadly passed away. Colin was always found in the Main Stand on a Saturday afternoon and a local terrific snooker player. All our condolences to Colin’s family and friends.

Barnstaple Town are looking ahead to the future with a match-based assessment for potential players to join their under-18 squad. The match will be played on Sunday, July 3 and for more information, please contact barnstapletownu18s@outlook.com

It is a similar story down the road at Ilfracombe Town, where the newly formed U18 squad will be staging trial games on July 9, July 20 and July 26. Please email Nick Langmead at nlangmead1973@gmail.com for details.

At first-team level, Ilfracombe begin their preparations for the new Western League season with an opening friendly at home to Bovey Tracey on Saturday. Brixham visit on July 5 and Honiton on July 9, which will also see the reopening of the clubhouse.

Ilfracombe travel to Torrington on July 12, they host Cheddar on July 16 and finish with trips to Holsworthy July 19 and Elmore July 22.
