Fledgling Barnstaple team flying high

Barnstaple AFC under-9s team is just two months old - but it is already a trophy winner!

The youngsters played nine games without defeat to win the Newton St Cyres five-a-side tournament.

In a closely contested final they came through 4-3 on penalties against Ivybridge after having drawn 2-2 at full time.

Man of the tournament Archie Popham netted 11 goals. There was great defence from Brandon Lace and Devon Sharp and a Steven Gerrard performance from Aaron Hastie. Goalkeeper Cameron Johnson had an amazing debut in goal and there was a tireless performance from Jack Winter up-front.

Manager Brett Sharp said all the players had put in tremendous effort and had received outstanding comments from other teams, including two academy sides they beat along the way.
