Manager Copp is happy with Appledore’s 1-1 draw at home to Teignmouth

APPLEDORE manager Geoff Copp was happy with his side’s 1-1 draw at home to promotion rivals Teignmouth on Saturday.

In an evenly-contested game at Marshford, Giles Daniel found the net for the Fishermen with around 20 minutes left to play before unfortunate defender Gary Skinner sliced the equaliser into his own net in the 81st minute.

“We continued with the form we showed at Stoke Gabriel,” said Copp.

“We had a good start but have been through a difficult period where players weren’t quite performing.

“In the last two games, we’re returned to something close to where we were and have been playing football with a different attitude and a different energy.

“Richard Hevingham looks sharper now he’s got the New York marathon out of his system and as a team, we competed well and had some really good spells in the game.”

With Jamie Frickleton suspended and Adam Copp not expected to recover from knee ligament damage for another two weeks, Copp handed reserve team player Sam Grimley his second start at left back and also brought in team mate Sam Fishwick on the left side of midfield.

“I was pleased with both players and although Sam (Fishwick) didn’t get a lot of the ball, he’s an intelligent player and he played a simple, effective game and made some good runs off the ball.”

Appledore are away to Exeter Civil Service on Saturday.
