Firefighters rescue four people stuck in mud

FIREFIGHTERS were called to the Hartland area last night (Thursday) to rescue four people whose car was stuck in mud in a remote country lane.

Two appliances were mobilised from Hartland and Bideford shortly before 8pm to try to locate the vehicle, after it was established that it was somewhere between Hartland and Elmscott.

Geographic co-ordinates from a mobile phone signal were used to enable fire control to pinpoint the approximate location of the caller. Further questioning of the caller and a mapping system helped to further narrow down the search area and the fire crews located the vehicle down a narrow lane near Lymebridge.

Firefighters made their way to the scene on foot to reach the vehicle and the four occupants were made comfortable with blankets. A local farmer was contacted to help pull the vehicle out of the mud with a tractor and they were able to continue on their way.
