FIREFIGHTERS were called to New Barnstaple Road in Ilfracombe this morning (Wednesday) after reports of smoke coming from a bungalow.

Two appliances were initially mobilised at 9am and on arrival the crews asked for further assistance and a third appliance was sent from Combe Martin.

The fire involved a store that was under the bungalow. The underground store was severely damaged by fire and smoke also penetrated the bungalow.

Fire crews used breathing apparatus sets and hose reels to extinguish the fire and a pressure fan was also used to help extract smoke from the bungalow.

The cause of the fire is being treated as accidental.
