North Devon Council receiving 143 new cases every month
NORTH Devon Council is reviewing its policy on homelessness prevention in response to a 50 per cent increase in cases during the last two years.
Demand for homelessness advice and housing options has continued to grow, with the council receiving an average of 143 new cases every month.
As part of plans to change the way the service is delivered, the council is now encouraging customers to contact the housing team by phone, where their needs will be assessed and an officer may make an appointment to visit them in their home.
Executive Member for Housing, Councillor Faye Webber, said: â€œThis more flexible approach is aimed at improving services to those who are most vulnerable in our community; where if we canâ€™t help them over the phone, weâ€™ll visit them in their own home.
â€œNot only will this be more convenient for them, but it gives them a more personal service and the officer a greater understanding of the individualâ€™s needs.â€
