Ebbw Vale choir comes to Ilfracombe

A CHANCE meeting in the Caribbean has led to a visit to Ilfracombe by the world renowned Ebbw Vale Male Voice Choir on Saturday, May 14.

The 40 strong choir from South Wales are known as quite possibly the best in the world and they will be performing in a packed charity concert at Holy Trinity Parish Church, organised in conjunction with Ilfracombe Rotary Club.

It is the first time the choir have sung in North Devon and they will be joined by local musician and singer songwriter Chris Millington plus singer Anne Rumak and Ilfracombe College students Paige Fortune, Noel Grummit, Joanna Robb, Owen Watson and Adam Swanson.

All proceeds will be divided between Rotary charities and church funds for the repair of Holy Trinity and nearby St Peter’s.

All of the artist performing, including the Ebbw Vale Choir, are giving their services free of charge.

It all came about when organiser, Rotarian and church member David Beagley happened to bump into Ebbw Vale secretary David Jenkins – on a Caribbean cruise ship.

Now choir president, Mr Jenkins said they had never been to Ilfracombe before as a choir and promptly volunteered their services for a visit!

“This is the first time that Holy Trinity has been used for such an event but it will now be available for many such concerts and exhibitions in the future,” said Mr Beagley.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to see a top notch choir in the grand stetting of the parish church. Please come along and show your support for these good causes.”

Tickets are available from Tinker Tailor Party Shop and Hairport in Ilfracombe High Street, or by calling David Beagley (01271) 866647.
