Eastman masterclass lifts Lynton
Man-of-the-match display inspires Jim Mirrow’s side
CJ Roberts scored three goals for Lynton & Lynmouth to send them back to the top of the Intermediate One table on Saturday.
Jim Mirrow’s side edged ahead of Sporting Barum on goal difference after the 5-2 win at home to Landkey Town.
Former goalkeeper-turned outfield player Tristan Jones scored after the Landkey keeper had saved his first effort and Martyn Phillips rounded the keeper to score an fine individual goal.
Mirrow said: “We should have been five or six up at half-time but it was nice to get the win.
“CJ had a great game and normally when you score three goals you’d expect the man-of-the-match award but that had to go top Dave Eastman this week.
“Dave played the holding role in the middle of the midfield and had a brilliant game – everything we created went through him.â€
In the division’s other game, Sporting Barum dropped points for the first time since September in a 2-2 draw against Putford Reserves.
Ben Walters scored the first for the Barnstaple side and Chay West bagged the second with a free-kick.
Sporting drop into second in the table but still have a game in hand on leaders Lynton.
Games between Braunton Thirds and Clovelly; High Bickington and Ilfracombe Town Thirds; Woolacombe & Mortehoe and Wrey Arms; and Merton and AFC Anchor were all postponed due to frozen pitches.
All games in Intermediate Two were postponed due to the weather.
