For the second time of the weekend South Molton fought back, but could not quite make it, as they followed up their 4-3 reverse in the Combe Martin Cup with a 5-3 defeat at home to Lynton in round one of the Holman Cup on Sunday.
They went 4-0 down in the opening half before pulling three back in a 20-minute second half spell through Tyler Newnham, Colin Kennerson and Matt Houle’s first for the club. But then Lynton widened the gap again on 80 minutes.
Lynton’s win, making up for their extra time defeat in the Combe Martin Cup the previous day, came through a hat-trick from Luke Dyer and two more goals by Max Smith.
