Johnson scores vital goal on his return from Oz
Barnstaple Town Reserves had an old friend from Down Under to thank as they continued to make an impact at the top of the Devon and Exeter Division One table.
Striker Dean Johnson only flew back from Australia on Thursday after a long period working overseas. But he was back in the side – and on target – on Saturday as second-placed Barum drew 1-1 with third-placed promotion rivals East Budleigh.
Town found themselves 1-0 down at the break but Johnson showed no sign of jet-lag as he bagged the equaliser for the grateful visitors.
Keith Shapland’s side have 10 league games left to play this season, as well as a Devon Firewatch Senior Cup final. The run-in picks up again tonight (Wednesday) at home to Elmore and continues on Saturday with a trip to Feniton.
