Local councillor urges volunteers to join him in two-month weight loss challenge
A NORTH Devon councillor is getting to grips with his feminine side as part of a belly-busting fund-raising charity challenge.
Cllr Dave Butt will be hoping to “Drop a Dress Size†in aid of the Children’s Hospice South West and is urging other people to do the same during the two-month weight loss campaign.
He is inviting willing volunteers to join him at an official “weigh-in†event taking place in the Barnstaple High Street branch of Marks and Spencer this Saturday. (Jan 22)
He said: “It’s that time of year when people decide to try and lose those extra Christmas pounds but I just never seem to get around to actually doing it.
“To give me an incentive I chose to raise sponsorship and awareness in an unusual way; I’m working on the basis that a dress size is around a stone in weight and hope that I can achieve that.
“It would be great if people joined me on this and together we lost pounds for ourselves but gained pounds for the life-limited children we care for at Children’s Hospice South West.â€
Barnstaple Marks and Spencer general manager Stephen Deacon and staff member Luke Ferguson are among those who have signed up to take part in the challenge.
To get involved, visit the sore between 10am and 12noon on Saturday and join the dress size weigh-in.
Participants are asked to raise sponsorship from family, friends and colleagues at 1 per pound lost. They will be able to discover how much weight they have lost at a second weigh-in on Sunday, March 20.
