Northside charge full steam ahead into the semis

NORTHSIDE Atlantic cruised into the semi-finals of the North Devon Journal Cup with a 6-1 win in the Bideford derby with AFC Anchor Reserves on Sunday.

Matt Cann scored a hat-trick and there were singles for Vinny Bott, Matt Horn and a first ever goal for the club for Kevin Beer.

Northside will play Torridgeside Reserves, who came from behind to beat Bratton Fleming Reserves 3-2 at Donnacroft.

Niall Gooding scored the first for the visitors and Chris Nichol made it 2-0.

But Torridgeside shuffled things about in the second half to pull off a memorable turnaround.

Strike partners Shaun Kennealy and Andy Stevens have a combined age of 82 but they turned the game on its head, Kennealy scoring two and Stevens adding one in a 3-2 win.

In the other semi-final, Fremington will play Anchor Chiefs following a 3-0 win at neighbours Barnstaple FC.

The Chiefs made it through thanks to a narrow 1-0 win at home to Pilton Academicals Reserves.

The game was settled by a 21st minute Shaun Hastings penalty that was awarded when Accies’ stand-in keeper Dean Stanworth was adjudged to have fouled 16-year-old striker Matt Nailor, who was in for the absent Shayne Voisey.

Chiefs’ manager Mick Tattersall wished Liam Shaxton and Matt Hatten speedy recoveries from appendicitis.

In the only league game, Bradworthy Reserves beat Braunton Fourths 5-3 on the road.
