THE semi-finals of the North Devon Table Tennis League’s Ramsey Trophy competition were evenly split, with first division teams contesting one and second division teams the other.

Considering their respective league positions, the handicaps were quite tight in the Castle Knights versus Misfits clash. The Knights trio of David Gray, Gerald Luscombe and Ian Rice took a 3-0 lead, only for Peter Kneil, Kevin Nicholls and Martyn Beer to pull back to 4-4.

It was left to the two captains to battle out the decider, Gerald Luscombe overcoming Peter Kneil to give the Knights a 5-4 win.

The Dolphins versus Hopefuls clash was close at start, with Derek Preston, Alan Pemberton and Dave Andrews holding the line for Dolphins. But the second half was a different matter as Alan Cheung, Sam Morris and Tony Clark Grenville pulled away for a 6-3 win, giving Hopefuls a chance to improve on their runners-up spot of last year.
