TWENTY tonnes of straw were destroyed in a barn blaze at Higher Muddiford Hill near Barnstaple yesterday (Friday) afternoon.

Fire crews were called at 3.30pm, with two Barnstaple appliances plus a water foam carrier initially sent, followed by engines from Combe Martin and Braunton plus the incident command unit.

A section of the 25 by 12 metre building collapsed and crews allowed the straw to burn out under their supervision.

Traffic restrictions were in place while the incident was dealt with.
