A review is to be carried out of the Braunton conservation area by North Devon Council.
It will look at what makes the historic character and appearance of the village special and whether the area should be extended or reduced.
The council will be asking the public for their ideas and views at an event which will take place later in the year.
“North Devon is a fantastic place to live with a variety of unique history and charm,†said Lead Member for Planning, Councillor Colin Wright.
“Carrying out reviews of our towns and villages, like the one about to take place in Braunton, is vital to make sure that we protect this for future generations.â€
Following the review, a management plan to preserve these areas will be prepared. This will be considered when decisions are made on planning applications for the area and those adjoining it.
Reviews have already been carried out for other conservation areas including Combe Martin, Berrynarbor and Fremington.
