Consider becoming a newspaper distributor for the North Devon Gazette

Joseph Bulmer

The North Devon Gazette team is appealing for paper distributors to help with our plans to expand our circulation.

The Gazette is currently delivered to more than 22,000 households but we don’t want to stop there.

In this phase of our expansion plans we are looking for new distributors in the Barnstaple, East-the-Water and Ilfracombe areas.

While traditionally our paper is delivered by ‘paper boys and girls’ we’re encouraging people of any age to consider taking on a round.

Some of our distributors are in their 60s and 70s and deliver the paper to keep fit and stay active in the community.

A number of our distributors also donate their pay cheques to our two partner charities, North Devon Hospice and Children’s Hospice South West, helping them provide outstanding palliative care to people in our community with life limiting illnesses.

While other papers rely on teams from outside the area to come in and deliver in bulk, we believe in working in partnership with our community.

It will save money, at a time when producing a paper is costing more and more, and will reduce the fuel miles spent, making our newspaper more environmentally friendly.

Gazette editor Joe Bulmer worked as distributor in Bideford as a teenager, he said: “I loved delivering the Gazette every Wednesday. It was great to become part of the community for the rounds I served. It also sparked a lifelong obsession with local news.

“We’ve been blown away by some of our older distributors and by those who donate their wages to incredible local causes. If you’re looking for a way to stay active, earn money for charity or yourself and become a key part of the community consider becoming one of our distributors.”
